Room to open
San Marcos has fewer coffee shops & cafés per person than the rest of Texas
At the state rate, the city would hold about 12 more. That is room, not a guarantee: the full report checks who is actually open within a few miles and whether the income and foot traffic are there.
25.0% of the state rate for the city. Below 65% counts as underserved, above 135% as crowded. City: Census Business Patterns 2023 by ZIP code, summed over the ZIPs inside the city limits; county: County Business Patterns 2022; ACS 5-year population.

How to read it
Fewer per person than the state is a sign of room, more is a sign of a crowd. Neither decides anything on its own: a city can be crowded on average and have a neighborhood with nothing, and a thin city can be thin because nobody there wants one. That is what the paid report checks.
